Birth of Lapin Lisä

Lapin Lisä (“Lapland´s Extra”) was born from the need of the regional production companies and scriptwriters to get a professional support system for developing film ideas and to get a direct link to national financiers to pitch film ideas. Lapin Lisä is based on the positive experiences from the Toinen Suomi (“The Other Finland”) ¬project, which was also managed by Kemi-Tornio University of Applied Sciences.

Regional development goals of Lapin Lisä

Lapland has a broad potential of attractive stories, different cultures and talented filmmakers, who believe in themselves and in Lapland's opportunities in the film industry. The films produced in the region have in recent years achieved more and more success at film festivals. Stories are the future export article of Lapland. The development of the experience travel industry is also based on the creation of attractive stories from Lapland.

Lapin Lisä aims to get more stories from Lapland to the screen; stories that are told by the people who actually live in Lapland. Lapin Lisä is a tool for developing a professional film and TV-industry in Lapland. Lapin Lisä creates a permanent support structure for the professional development of scriptwriters and production companies and creates a campfire for the storytellers to gather around and nurture the strong storytelling tradition of Lapland.

Lapin Lisä - film idea development system

Lapin Lisä can be used to develop short and feature films, documentaries and TV-programs, both fictional and non-fictional. Regular checkpoints for the scriptwriting process have been created, to which the film ideas are sent at least in synopsis format (1 page of text).

Filmmakers from Lapland receive feedback from professionals about their film ideas in the form of personal meetings and in written evaluations during the Arktista Vimmaa (October) and Skbmagovat (January) film festivals. The idea is to arrange personal meetings during the festivals, which the filmmakers are attending anyway.

Lapin Lisä brings the financiers to Lapland

The main national financiers of the Film and TV-industry have offices in Helsinki. A pitching trip to Helsinki from Lapland is a daunting task especially for the newcomers to the industry. It is impossible to meet the financiers together or even individually in one day. It is also hard to get professional feedback for your work without contacts with the production companies in the metropolitan area. Because of the long distances, Lapland's filmmakers have difficulties even in meeting each other face to face. Lapin Lisä solves these problems.

Lapin Lisä - to whom?

Lapland is full of attractive stories, which are either true or spiced up with Lapin Lisä. Everybody living in Lapland can participate in Lapin Lisä with their film idea. Participation in the previous phases of Lapin Lisä is not a requirement for participation. You also don't need to have a wide experience of the film industry. "All you need" is a good story.
